Issues streaming on Chromecast

Playbook not working on Chromecast

The Playbook app for Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra allows you to control your Playbook experience from your Apple iOS or Android device. If you use the Google Chrome browser, you can also send Playbook to your TV from your phone.

If you have trouble setting up your Chromecast or Chromecast Ultra

  • Make sure the Chromecast's name does not contain any special characters. Special characters in the Chromecast name (like emojis or apostrophes) will prevent it from being seen by the Playbook app. To resolve this issue, launch the Google Home app on your casting device, select the Chromecast name, and remove any special characters. After changing the name of your Chromecast, restart the Playbook app, and look for the Cast icon when playing a TV show or movie.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of iOS or Android installed on your mobile device. Playbook on Chromecast is compatible with iOS 13.0+ iPhones, iPads, and iPods, and with WiFi-enabled Android 5.0+ phones and tablets.
  • Make sure the Playbook app is up to date. You can check for updates in the App Store or in Google Play. Android devices must be running Playbook app version 2.4 or higher. Apple mobile devices must be running Playbook app version 4.2 or higher.
  • If you're using the Chrome browser, make sure you are on the most recent version. Visit the Google Support page to verify you have the most recent version of Chrome installed.
  • Make sure your device is connected to the same wireless network as your Chromecast. Chromecast needs to be on the same Wi-Fi network in order to connect.
  • Is your router, modem, or gateway set to multicast? Your router, modem, or gateway owner's manual or manufacturer should have instructions for enabling multicast.

If you see an error that says you need to update the Playbook app

Playbook on Chromecast is compatible with iOS 13.0+ iPhones, iPads, and iPods, and with WiFi-enabled Android 5.0+ phones and tablets.NOTE: If you have completed all available updates for your Android phone or tablet and are still seeing the error, your device may not be compatible with Chromecast. You can check with the manufacturer to see if a newer Android version is available for your device.
  • Make sure the Playbook app is up to date. You can check for updates in the App Store or in Google Play. Android devices must be running Playbook app version 2.4 or higher.NOTE: If your device is not able to download the Playbook app directly from the Google Play Store, you may be unable to use the device with Chromecast.
